France Voices Support for Denmark Amid Trump Takeover Fears

(MENAFN) France declared its support for Denmark on Monday following U.S. President Donald Trump's Sunday assertion that America requires Greenland "for defense."

"Borders cannot be changed by force," French Foreign Ministry spokesman Pascal Confavreux stated during an appearance on a French public broadcaster.

In a Sunday phone conversation with The Atlantic, Trump emphasized that the United States "absolutely" needs Greenland. The Arctic territory remains under Danish sovereignty.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen responded with a statement declaring that Washington lacks any authority to seize Greenland, calling on the U.S. administration to cease intimidating a longtime ally and the Greenlandic population.

Since assuming the presidency in January 2025, Trump has persistently signaled his administration's desire to acquire Greenland, indicating he would not exclude "military or economic coercion" as methods to secure the territory.
