Denmark Picks European SAMP/T NG Over US Patriot System

(MENAFN) Denmark has opted for the Franco-Italian SAMP/T NG air defense system instead of the US-made Patriot system, a move that represents a significant milestone for Europe’s next-generation missile defense technology, according to reports.

The decision marks the first export agreement for the upgraded SAMP/T NG system. The manufacturer stated that the deal includes the delivery of SAMP/T NG components, which are expected to arrive starting in 2028.

With this agreement, Denmark becomes the third participant in the SAMP/T NG framework, joining France and Italy, the system’s original developers.

The manufacturer also noted that Denmark will benefit from expanded production capacity for both the air defense system and its associated Aster missile program.

The selection had already been made in September, when Denmark chose the European system over the US Patriot alternative.

The SAMP/T system is developed by Eurosam, a joint venture involving Thales and MBDA’s French and Italian divisions.
